The short answer
An FAQ gives a concise answer to a recurring question. A how-to guides an action step by step. A glossary defines a term and its context. A support guide helps resolve a specific problem. Choose the form based on what readers need, not a desire to publish more URLs.
Choose the format that serves the task
An FAQ gives a concise answer to a recurring question. A how-to guides an action step by step. A glossary defines a term and its context. A support guide helps resolve a specific problem. Choose the form based on what readers need, not a desire to publish more URLs.
FAQ Writer, Support Hub Builder, Glossary Builder and How-to Writer are included Editor modules. Use real approved questions where available. Private tickets should not be copied into public content without authorization and removal of personal details.
Make answers complete and accountable
Write the direct answer first, then conditions or steps. Verify product access and instructions against the current product. Link to detailed guidance when needed rather than repeating the same long answer across several pages.
A glossary definition should explain how the term is used and what it is not. A support guide should describe the actual expected outcome and what to do if the issue remains. Avoid inventing controls or procedures you have not verified.
Do not promise search enhancements
Readable FAQs and tutorials can be useful without rich results. Google limits FAQ rich results to certain well-known authoritative government or health sites and no longer shows HowTo rich results in Google Search.
Use schema only when it accurately describes the visible content and meets applicable guidance. A module’s ability to generate markup does not mean your page will receive a result enhancement. Judge success by whether readers get accurate answers.
A practical workflow
- 1
Collect authorized recurring questions and group distinct tasks.
- 2
Choose FAQ, tutorial, glossary or troubleshooting format.
- 3
Verify answers and instructions, then add contextual links.
- 4
Review unresolved questions and maintain product-sensitive details.
A worked example
“Is the translator included in Editor?” belongs in a concise access FAQ. “How do I publish localized language URLs?” needs a practical tutorial. Keeping those as distinct answers avoids burying a buying question inside a technical walkthrough.
Illustrative example, not a customer result.
Before you publish
- Questions reflect a real useful task.
- Support inputs are authorized and anonymized.
- Instructions are verified.
- No FAQ or HowTo rich result is promised.
