Build a repeatable observation set and separate brand mentions, source citations and business outcomes across engines and markets.

The short answer

Choose questions relevant to real audience decisions and record their wording. Include market, language, engine and observation date. If the wording changes every time, it becomes harder to compare outcomes meaningfully.

Build a repeatable observation set

Count brand mentions, linked citations and source URLs separately. A mention without a source link is not equivalent to a citation, and neither automatically means a qualified visit. Track downstream outcomes using appropriate analytics where available.

Interpret variation cautiously

Generated answers can vary. Repeat observations with consistent conditions where possible and preserve the evidence needed to check the interpretation. Do not infer a broad visibility gain from one screenshot or one favorable prompt.

Citation Fan-out Audit explores sub-queries behind citations, and Trending Prompts explores rising questions. Both are listed Editor modules. Treat research outputs as inputs to your observation plan rather than proof of market-wide demand.

Respect the current product status

GSEO Visibility is listed as building, not as a live standalone product available to purchase. Its module page offers launch information. A measurement guide should remain useful without implying that a planned tool already works as a standalone subscription.

Bing’s announced AI Performance reporting describes citation counts and cited URLs, while distinguishing those metrics from placement within an answer. Use the definitions of each platform’s report instead of assuming every engine measures visibility identically.

A practical workflow

  1. 1

Define a relevant query set and record language and market.

  2. 2

Capture engine, date, mention status, citation and cited URL.

  3. 3

Repeat comparable observations and note response variation.

  4. 4

Report limits and business outcomes separately from visibility metrics.

A worked example

If a brand appears in two responses to one research prompt, report those two observations with their dates and engines. Do not call it a proven share-of-market increase. Extend the same documented observation set before drawing a trend.

Illustrative example, not a customer result.

Before you publish

  • Queries and market are recorded.
  • Mentions and linked citations are distinct.
  • Single observations are not generalized.
  • Building products are not advertised as live.

Common questions

Does citation count show where I appear in an answer?

Not necessarily. Use the platform’s metric definitions; Bing distinguishes citation counts from answer placement.

Is GSEO Visibility available standalone now?

The catalog marks it as building. Visit its module page for the current status and launch notification.
